APA investigates the incident of release of industrial hazardous waste products by Safaga Customs

As per the instructions of Counselor Aly Rizk – President of Administrative Prosecution Authority to tackle corruption in various sectors of the state, Hurgada Prosecution is currently conducting investigations regarding the report presented by some regulatory bodies stating that officials at Safaga Customs released
industrial hazardous waste products which are prohibited to be imported by the state where this took place after some importers smuggled in foreign goods which are also prohibited to be imported as they are composed of recycled plastic polypropylene and polyethylene granules without presenting them to the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency( EEAA)
Investigations taking place are conducted by Senior Administrative Prosecutor/ Abd Al Aziz Al Azaly under the supervision of Counselor Islam Maklad/Head of Hurgada Prosecution
It is worth mentioning that a criminal action was taken against the importing company after the release of 29 custom certificates from Safaga Customs and a judgement was issued to fine the defendant one thousand Egyptian Pounds as well as compelling him to pay an amount equivalent to double the customs value in addition to a confiscation fine; a total amount of fifteen million, nine hundred and seventy-eight thousand, three hundred and fifty-eight Egyptian pounds.
